Tourismuszentrale Stralsund
Through fields and meadows, with magnificent views and some bathing opportunities. Tiny settlements and individual farms shape the character of this route.
The bike paths are partly developed, left in their natural state as well as paved and gravel roads. A bike ride suitable for almost every season and also good for families.
The route begins in the old town and leads over the harbor and the Rügen causeway past the island of Dänholm. From the Rügen causeway, there is a magnificent view of the Strelasund, the island of Rügen, and the new Rügen Bridge, the longest bridge in Germany. On the way to Grahlefähr, the path runs directly along the water and offers a beautiful view of the Strelasund. In Grahlefähr, the first bathing spot invites you to a stop. On the further route, you follow the track of the former narrow-gauge railway, which has been partially asphalted. Before Gustow, there is another great view of Stralsund's silhouette. Upon arrival in Gustow, a visit to the Gothic brick church is recommended, where wall paintings from the year 1420 were discovered. In the cemetery, you can see a murder grave, which commemorates the murder of a pastor in 1510. The tour continues south. The bathing beach of Gustow invites you to take a break, but to get there you have to leave the original route and take a 100-meter detour. After the break, the route continues through the agriculturally used south of Rügen and towards Prosnitz. In this hilly landscape with many pasture areas, you not only encounter cows but can also often observe deer and hares. A little beyond the bungalow area, the route turns left towards the Kajan manor. However, if you want to go back to the water, that is the Strelasund, at this point, you ride straight ahead along the field path to the water’s edge. Upon reaching the water, there is a small bathing option. A break at the Kajan manor is obligatory. Then the route continues on the gravel path to the well-asphalted bike path back to Gustow. After passing through Gustow, the route goes towards Kransdorf. Before reaching Kransdorf, the route turns left onto the paved path towards Jarkvirt. At the next T-junction, take a left and then follow the stretch of the outbound route, but this time not to Garhlefähr, rather to Grahlhof, which is a slightly shorter way to the Rügen causeway than the outbound route. The remaining return path is almost exactly the same as the outbound route.
