Rhine-Pfinz-Alb Tour

The starting point of the tour is Marxzell-Frauenalb, known for the monastery ruins of the former Benedictine convent. The monastery path connects the two former Black Forest founding monasteries Bad Herrenalb and Frauenalb. In Marxzell, the Maisenbach flows into the Alb and the Moosalb into Fischweier. Along the Alb, continue towards Waldbronn and Ettlingen, where the Alb leaves the Black Forest and enters the middle Upper Rhine Plain. Following the Alb, you pass through the districts of Karlsruhe until you reach the Karlsruhe Rhine port, one of the most important inland ports in Europe. From the height of Maxau, the Alb runs parallel to the Rhine and flows through the Miro oil refinery in a canal until it empties into the Rhine at Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen. Before flowing into the Rhine, the Alb diversion branches off, which you follow on your further path. The Alb diversion feeds the Pfinz relief canal at Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, which also reaches the Rhine. You pass the Rhine ferry in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, along the Rhine, and pass the island "Rott". After Dettenheim-Rußheim, the Pfinz merges with an old Rhine arm and also flows into the Rhine. From Rußheim, you ride towards the source of the Pfinz. On your way there, you reach Graben-Neudorf, Karlsdorf-Neuthard, Stutensee, and the city of Karlsruhe. The Pfinz is the namesake for the next community on your journey: Pfinztal. The source of the Pfinz lies in the Black Forest; it originates from various meadows between Ittersbach and Langenalb. At first, the Pfinz is just a small brook there, which grows into a river through the influx of various streams. The tour ends in Marxzell-Frauenalb.
