The Prien River originates at Spitzstein at 1,150 meters above sea level in the mountaineers' village Sachrang. After 32 kilometers, the Prien flows into the Schafwaschener Bay of the Chiemsee near Rimsting. Along with the Tiroler Achen, the Prien is the second largest tributary to the Chiemsee and one of the longest wild streams in the Bavarian Alpine region.
Along the Prientalweg, you pass various sights and excursion destinations. In Sachrang, you can follow in the footsteps of the organist, choir director, composer, and lay doctor at the Müllner Peter Museum.
In Aschau i. Chiemgau, you will find Hohenaschau Castle with falconry. Or how about a short detour to the Kampenwand with the Kampenwand cable car?
In Prien am Chiemsee, you can experience the history of the place up close in the Prien Local History Museum. Not far from the town center is the Chiemsee shipping, which takes you to Herreninsel with Herrenchiemsee Castle as well as to the smaller Fraueninsel with its monastery complex.
Outside the town of Rimsting is the Schafwaschener Bay with a nature observation station, from which you can explore the biodiversity of the Chiemsee.
Along the route, Kneipp basins promise a refreshing and beneficial relief for the legs.

Safety information
- Always check the lighting system, brakes, tires, and reflectors of your bike before starting!
- Wear bright, reflective clothing in poor visibility (dusk, darkness, fog, etc.). Alternatively: vest or ankle bands with reflective stripes.
- Especially in autumn and winter, fallen leaves on the ground can hide possible unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
- Attach tall bike flags to your children's bikes so even the smallest riders are well seen in traffic.
