The Pelhřimov brewery Poutník, together with the town of Pelhřimov, opened the Poutník beer trail in 2015. The 60 km long route connected the most beautiful places of the Gateway to Vysočina with the inspiring possibility to quench your thirst in charming pubs with delicious Pelhřimov beer. Why past tense? The idea apparently faded, and today it's hard to find information about the Poutník trail. What we still have, though, is a tip for an attractive trip from Pelhřimov – the city of records. So when we mention, for example, Nová Cerekev with its Jewish monuments and Červená Řečice with its archbishop's castle on the route, we immediately have three reasons for a 40 km circuit around Pelhřimov. Of course, including Pelhřimov itself, the city "with forever good mood," where you will find a collection of unique records and curiosities, Pelhřimov devils and ghosts, old town walls and a castle, and last but not least plenty of art… A great addition to the trip can also be the Poutník pubs and restaurants that you will encounter.

Děkanská zahrada PelhřimovRoadbook
The route along the treasures of the Pelhřimov region ideally starts at the central Masaryk Square near the tourist information center. If you want to visit some of the numerous Pelhřimov landmarks at the beginning, the best start is the Renaissance Šrejnar House right next to the info center, where you can look into the Pelhřimov Hell or the hall of famous Pelhřimov natives Oldřich and Lubomír Lipský (The First Czech MUSEUm). Next, there is the castle with the Vysočina Museum or the lookout tower of St. Bartholomew's Church. Through the gate next to the castle, called the Salt Gate, we finally leave the town walls of Pelhřimov along road no. 1219 cycling route heading towards Vlásenice. Three kilometers further, we arrive at Proseč Castle in the village of Proseč-Obořiště. We can only see the castle exterior because it houses a senior home inside. The castle park, accessible through several gates, hides the 500-year-old mighty Havlíček oak. We turn our southwest ride direction northwest and after 2 km descend into Nová Cerekev. Now only a market town but with all the attributes of a former town, it is famous for its Jewish traces left by a strong Jewish community. We pass through Cerekev from south to north, reaching the former Jewish quarter, and on the right side of the road, we will especially notice the restored synagogue building and possibly the Jewish cemetery. After Cerekev, a long stretch of the Pelhřimov region awaits us until Červená Řečice. The road on roads and small roads through rolling fields is interesting. Near the neighboring village of Stanovice, we encounter a typical "circle village" settlement. In the Pachtov granary at the end of the village on the left, we can stop at a small agricultural museum. After Stanovice, we must be very careful crossing the busy road no. 19, and in Pejškov we turn immediately at the start of the village to Lipice. We cross this other village "circle" heading towards Bítětice to the settlement called Bacovská Hospoda, perhaps named after a former roadside inn, and near Milotičky cycle route no. 1218 joins us, and with it, we reach Červená Řečice. The former (archi)episcopal town, as Řečice could nobly be called, may boast its regained town title, but the main pride – the Renaissance castle – is only gradually awakening from neglect to its former beauty and glory. Perhaps the title of a national cultural monument will help it in this regard. After circling the castle, we leave Řečice around St. Magdalene’s Church accompanied by a yellow tourist mark that leads us to the road and soon to the surface of the Trnávka reservoir. The picturesque corner around the reservoir is hardly diminished in beauty by the lower quality road, but after a while, we return to asphalt leading to the Brtná settlement. The climb from the reservoir into the hills turns us toward returning to the starting town of Pelhřimov. Through Svépravice and Pobistrýce, we watch the Hejlovka creek valley from a distance, which we cross near Krasíkovice. We do not follow cycling signs on the route, perhaps only on the last section to Raděnín. From here, we can continue on a beautiful new asphalt road around Raděnín Pond, connecting to cycling paths in the Pelhřimov City Parks. And then we are right in the city center, where the uniquely unmistakable Museum of Records and Curiosities in the Lower Gate of the walls and all the Pelhřimov ghosts at Masaryk Square await our visit… or rather, excuse me, in the Museum of Ghosts at the same place.
