Pilis Bike Pap-rét route (Kis Rigó Restaurant P+B)
One of the shortest Pilis Bike routes, which leads from the beautiful village of Pilisszentlászló to the iconic junction of the Visegrád Mountains at the Pap-rét forestry lodge. The asphalted forestry roads around Pap-rét offer an ideal opportunity for those who want to exercise in the fresh air without car traffic in the forest on two wheels.
In terms of energy management, the task is simple, as from the start we almost continuously climb to Pap-rét, then descend back on the same road. There is no better place in the area to replenish burnt calories than at the Kis Rigó Restaurant at the starting point.

The tour only passes a few hundred meters on terrain. If there is very deep mud, or the bikes or riders' skill is not sufficient for the rocky section between Pilisszentlászló and Hegytető, this part can be replaced by the parallel main road. Always remain disciplined here and observe traffic rules! Another solution is to start from the parking lot at Hegytető.
- If you complete the tour on a weekend and want to eat at the Kis Rigó Restaurant afterwards, it is definitely recommended to make a table reservation.

- Right at the beginning of the tour, after Kis Rigó Restaurant, turning left towards Pilisszentlászló requires extra caution; be careful!

Description:
Kis Rigó - Hegytető
- Terrain: asphalt, rocky path, dirt road
Starting from the restaurant considered our starting point, we begin rolling towards the main road. Upon reaching the intersection, turn right, then after a few pedal strokes, signaling to the left while watching the traffic behind us. First, carefully move next to the dashed line, then after looking back again, turn left towards the village! Follow the winding road towards Pilisszentlászló center, then after passing the Town Hall and the ABC store, keep right towards Kossuth Lajos Street! Pictograms and signs also indicate the direction to Pap-rét. In the quiet little street along the Apátkúti stream, we slowly leave civilization behind and soon find ourselves at the edge of the forest.
Once on the terrain, be alert immediately, as we must roll over a small ditch before the most technical section of the route begins. The narrow path is dotted with large stones that really challenge both the bike and the rider. It is an exciting challenge to ride through this section, but if it feels too much, a bit of pushing is certainly allowed. Fortunately, the trail is rough like this for only a few hundred meters, then it suddenly changes to a pleasant forest dirt road. After a few minutes, we find ourselves behind the Hegytető parking lot, where we switch to asphalt at the gate and turn left to begin the climb.
Hegytető - Pap-rét
- Terrain: asphalt
A steady climb of 3 kilometers awaits us to Pap-rét. Overcoming the narrow 100-meter altitude difference is pleasantly invigorating but by no means an impossible challenge. The asphalt strip winding through the trees is reassuringly flanked on both sides by forest, making cycling here a truly relaxing experience. The National Blue Trail K sign joining from the left and the clearing spreading out on the right already signal the end of the climb. Shortly after turning onto the descent, it's worth enjoying the view opening up on the right. The hills rising above the Sztaravoda stream undulate spectacularly before our eyes. The volcanic peaks of the eastern part of the Visegrád Mountains rise between 500 and 600 meters, carving up the landscape, providing a spectacular terrain model regardless of the season. After leaving the highest point of the ride, just a few minutes of rolling will bring us to Pap-rét.
Pap-rét is a junction of asphalted forestry roads crossing the area, nestled between Visegrád, Szentendre, and Pilisszentlászló. Opposite the forestry house, a built resting place with benches and a table awaits hikers. At the end of the clearing towards Visegrád, a small pond is hidden right next to the road. After a short rest and refreshment, set off again by retracing the route traveled so far in the opposite direction.
Pap-rét - Hegytető
- Terrain: asphalt
Leaving the intersection, we pedal uphill for a few more minutes. The increasingly open landscape on the left offers a wonderful view of the Sztaravoda stream valley spreading out before us, then turning right we reach the highest point of the section. After the clearing hiding on the left, we can freely put the chain on the big ring and enjoy the rolling, but only moderately! On the generally good-quality asphalt, there are a few sneaky small potholes that can easily knock the handlebars out of your hands at high speed. Besides, this is a section busy with both pedestrians and cyclists, so always keep control of your speed and the bike on the narrow road! After a few minutes of descent, the main road appears among the trees. After bypassing the gate, turn right off the asphalt, as from here the route continues on a forest dirt road.
Hegytető - Kis Rigó
- Terrain: rocky path, dirt road, asphalt
After turning off from the main road, first we proceed on a pleasant and wide dirt road, which gradually narrows. At one point, the ground becomes rocky and then particularly unpleasant. On this 100-200 meter section, it’s necessary to hold on tightly to the handlebars. With a less suitable bike for terrain or less experience, it’s advisable to walk through this short section. After crossing a small ditch, we arrive in one of Pilisszentlászló's quiet streets that leads to the center of the village. Here, turning left follow the noise of the main road! After a few turns, turn right onto it, then after about 300 meters, keep an eye on the Kis Rigó Restaurant sign and carefully signal to turn left towards the forest.
Public transport
The tour location is relatively difficult to reach by public transport. It is recommended to travel by H5 suburban railway to Szentendre, as it is the closest option for transporting bikes.
