Description:
Hegytető - Pap-rét
- Terrain: asphalt
Starting from the parking lot, a steady climb of 3 kilometers awaits us to Pap-rét. Overcoming the narrow hundred-meter elevation gain is pleasantly invigorating but by no means an impossible challenge. The asphalt strip winding between the trees is soothingly enclosed by forest on both sides, making cycling here a truly relaxing experience. The K marker of the National Blue Trail joining from the left and the clearing spreading to the right already hint at the end of the climb. Shortly after turning onto the descent, it is worth enjoying the view opening up to the right. The hills rising above the Sztaravoda Creek roll dramatically before our eyes. The volcanic peaks in the eastern part of the Visegrád Mountains reach heights between 500 and 600 meters, shaping the landscape, so regardless of the season, a spectacular terrain model unfolds before us. After leaving the highest point of the route, just a few minutes of coasting bring us to Pap-rét.
This intersection is a junction of paved forestry roads crossing the area, nestled between Visegrád, Szentendre, and Pilisszentlászló. Opposite the forester’s lodge, a built rest area with benches and tables awaits tourists. At the Visegrád end of the clearing, a small pond hides near the road. After a short rest and refreshment, begin the journey again by retracing the route traveled so far in the opposite direction.
Pap-rét - Hegytető
- Terrain: asphalt
After leaving the intersection, we pedal uphill for a few more minutes. The increasingly open landscape offers a marvelous view to the left over the valley of the Sztaravoda Creek stretching before us, then turning right we reach the highest point of this section. After the clearing hidden on the left, we can confidently shift to the big chainring and enjoy the descent, but moderately! On the generally good-quality asphalt, there are some sneaky small potholes that at high speed can easily catch the handlebars out of your hands. Moreover, this is a busy area for both pedestrians and cyclists, so always keep your speed and bike under control on the narrow road! After a few minutes of descending, the starting point of our route, the Hegytető parking lot, appears between the trees.
Public transport
The location of the route is relatively difficult to reach by public transport. It is advisable to travel by the H5 suburban railway to Szentendre; this is the nearest option when carrying a bicycle.Get Timetable to destination
Directions
From the suburban railway station, follow the green cycling pictogram along the Bükkös Creek to the far end of Dömörkapu, then turn right to the blue cycling pictogram, which leads first to Pilisszentlászló, and from there it's only a few minutes rolling down to the Hegytető parking lot.
Parking
Hegytető, next to Pilisszentlászló, can be approached from Szentendre or Lepence via main road 1116. Parking is relatively ample, but on a busy weekend it may fill up. In such cases, it is worth looking for a parking spot in Pilisszentlászló.Coordinates
