    Roadbook

The Mithras cycle route initially leads uphill from the car park to the valley bridge. Once at the top, it continues along the Fritz-Wunderlich-Weg, a former railway line that runs to Kusel. In Schwarzerden, we turn off to the Mithras monument, where you can admire traces of Roman heritage. The god Mithras, whose worship was brought by Roman soldiers from Persia, was revered as the sun god. Such Mithras monuments were historically only allowed to be visited by men. Returning to the route, the nearby pond area offers the opportunity for a pleasant rest. The path then leads past remains of Roman buildings and features a steep climb with an 8% gradient. Afterwards, you are rewarded with a descent over the 'Zeil' back to Oberkirchen. In good weather, this offers a splendid view into the Ostertal. The last few meters are still somewhat strenuous until you return to the starting point. You can finish the route with a visit to the Mineralogical Museum in Oberkirchen or with a refreshing swim in the Weiselbergbad.
