The Lenne route is characterized by the beauty of the Sauerland's nature. It promises the cyclist an incredible abundance of deep green forests, hills, picturesque meadows, and sunny valleys.
On the route to the Lenne estuary, you pass castles and fortresses that provide plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the region's history. But also interesting products of industrial culture give an insightful view into the historical development of the region. Towards the end of the route, it increasingly passes through cities and the cyclist gets an impression of the vibrant life in the Ruhr area. Then the last section of the route offers relaxation again. On quiet paths away from urban hustle and bustle, the cyclist reaches the mouth of the Lenne into the Ruhr. The 140-kilometer long route can be extended by about 100 kilometers through several excursions, which, like the route itself, are well developed. The first half of the Lenne route runs mostly on bike paths and quiet side roads. Between Werdohl and Iserlohn-Letmathe, the very good rail connection is recommended, especially for families with children.

With the "Lichtblick" Lenneschiene, an object in the landscape, cyclists are given insights into the Lenne valley on a new connecting section.

The first half of the Lenne route runs mostly on bike paths and quiet side roads.
Between Werdohl and Iserlohn-Letmathe, cyclists are increasingly led over busier roads. Improvements to the route are currently being made by building new bike paths or rerouting some sections. A good rail connection between Werdohl and Iserlohn-Letmathe offers a way to bypass the critical areas. We especially recommend this for families with children.
For the somewhat experienced cyclist, the "Fernblick variant" from Werdohl to Altena Castle offers a unique "elevation experience".
In the Hagen area, the route runs almost entirely on a paved bike path to the Lenne estuary.
Most of the route is paved. The few sections on unpaved forest, field, and riverside paths are topographically manageable. The route is well rideable year-round, except for a few days when snow is present.
