The route takes you from the Leine sources in the Thuringian Eichsfeld through the gently hilly river landscape past attractive historic towns. Whether Göttingen with its student flair, the old half-timbered town of Northeim or Einbeck, famous for its brewing tradition, there is interesting information and sights to see everywhere along the way.

Further north lies the scenic and forested region of Hildesheim. From here you always have wonderful views over the Leine valley. If you like, after a short detour of 12 km you can reach Hildesheim with its two UNESCO World Heritage churches. Also on the route are the half-timbered towns of Alfeld and Gronau, which are beautifully located between the seven mountains.

From the Lower Saxony state capital Hannover, where Maschsee, the Herrenhausen Gardens and the Hannover Adventure Zoo invite you to linger, follow the Leine into the surroundings of Lake Steinhude and further through the river landscape of the Aller-Leine valley shaped by meadows, forest and moors.

In the last stages, the route goes through the Lüneburger Heide, past Walsrode with the famous World Bird Park, the Heide Park in Soltau, and typical heath villages such as Schneverdingen and Wilsede. After crossing the impressive heath landscapes, you will reach the final destination, the Hanseatic city of Hamburg with its metropolitan flair and numerous sights.
