Kraichgau-Stromberg: Culture Route
Land der 1000 Hügel - Kraichgau-Stromberg
Besides beautiful landscapes, idyllic villages, and splendid nature, the Kraichgau is also an area rich in culture. On this route, we present you some special, historically significant highlights, such as the Maulbronn Monastery.
Start in Maulbronn, which you can reach by train. At the heart of the town is the monastery, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The entire complex is more than impressive, and it's worth spending some time here.
On beautiful paths, you glide to Bretten. Melanchthon was born here, a contemporary of Luther. Additionally, the town center with its half-timbered houses is an ideal place for a coffee break. Then follows a long climb that takes you to a hill dominated by agriculture.
Just past Bauschlott, there is an organic farm by the roadside with a café. There, you can also buy fresh vegetables and fruits from the farm. From the farm, it is not far until you arrive back in Maulbronn.
Author’s recommendation
In Bretten, Melanchthon, known as the "Teacher of Germany," was born as Philipp Schwarzerdt; the neo-Gothic Melanchthon House commemorates the reformer, humanist, and Luther companion.
At the UNESCO World Heritage Maulbronn Monastery, you stand amazed before the Romanesque-Gothic abbey of the Cistercian monks. And in the Faust town of Knittlingen, you can say "hello" to the magician and alchemist from the Middle Ages.
