Our starting point is in Müden (Örtze). From there we first go to Gerdehaus. Afterwards, we cycle to the Gauß stone on Haußelberg. The namesake of these stones, Carl Friedrich Gauß (1777-1855), was a famous scientist in physics, astronomy, and mathematics. "I could calculate before I could speak," Gauß used to say. Carl Friedrich Gauß conducted a degree measurement between the observatories of Göttingen and Hanover from 1821 to 1823. These measurements were used in the Hanoverian state survey, which Carl Friedrich Gauß led on behalf of the Hanoverian state government from 1825 to 1845. For this, Gauß established a triangulation network for the entire area of the former Kingdom of Hanover and determined the coordinates of 2600 trigonometrical points.
After extensively dealing with Carl Friedrich Gauß, we cycle on to Lutterloh. The final stage of our circular route is Weesen, from where we return to Müden (Örtze).
