Speyer, a city in Rhineland-Palatinate, is  part of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, and is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Speyer is well known far beyond for its imperial and Marian cathedral. It is the largest preserved Romanesque church worldwide and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1981. The Auto & Technik Museum is also very well known in Europe. After crossing the Salier Bridge, we arrive at Altlußheim. In Altlußheim is the Autovision Museum, which displays a considerable collection of cars, motorcycles, and bicycles from the NSU company, a permanent exhibition about the "Wankel engine", exhibits on alternative drives, and a series of experiments.  The route continues through Neulußheim to Reilingen, located on the Baden Asparagus Road and the Bertha Benz Memorial Route, offering many sights. For all interested in the special cultures of tobacco and asparagus, there is an asparagus and tobacco educational trail. We arrive at Walldorf. Walldorf is regionally famous for being the headquarters of the software company SAP and the Walldorf motorway interchange.  Next is Wiesloch, which, together with its neighboring town Walldorf, forms a medium-sized center in the Rhine-Neckar region. Furthermore, Wiesloch is the headquarters of the Winzers of Baden eG, a winemakers' cooperative and large winery, which, as an association of several local and regional cooperatives, is the biggest wine producer in the Baden Bergstraße and Kraichgau area. From Wiesloch, we travel along the Leimbach route into the Elsenztal, leading us to Sinsheim and our destination, the KLIMA ARENA.

    Author’s recommendation

Take enough water and a small snack with you. This way you won’t be dependent on breaks during the route.

    Safety information

A technically functional bike that complies with road traffic regulations and a helmet on your head should definitely be part of it.

    Tips and suggestions

Unfortunately, there is no direct train or bus connection after Speyer. You have to take a detour via Mannheim.

    Roadbook

In front of the train station, we are already on our route, the Odenwald Madonnen Route. This well-marked cycle path takes us past the cathedral, around the cathedral garden, and along the Naturfreundehaus to the B 39. We cross it and ride over the Salier Bridge across the Rhine to Baden-Württemberg. Immediately after the bridge, we turn  right and arrive at Altlußheim, Neulußheim, and Reilingen. Here we follow Speyrer Straße, Hauptstraße, and Walldorfer Str. through the town. About 200 m after leaving the town, opposite the entrance to the cemetery, we take the second driveway on the right. 400 m after Wersauerhof, we turn left towards the BAB A6. We drive over the A6 and A5 to the Hasso Plattner Ring. Attention do not follow the Odenwald Madonnen Route East route. At the roundabout, we immediately stay on the left side of the roadway and turn left after about 140 m. The next immediately right and after another 300 m it goes sharp right onto the foot and cycle path. We follow this to Dietmar-Hopp-Allee. Then turn left to cross the B 39. Then immediately turn right. We continue to Bahnhofstr. and turn right towards Wiesloch. After crossing the railway bridge, we turn left, cross the Leimbach, and after 120 m turn right onto an unpaved path. The path leads us past gardens, under the B 3, to the Leimbach route. We follow this, always paying attention to the signs, through Wiesloch. We stay on the Leimbach route and arrive at Dielheim, Horrenberg, and Balzfeld. About 1 km later, the only ascent of this route comes. After overcoming this hill, at the top we have a nice view, we ride down to Hoffenheim. Arriving in the Elsenztal, we cycle to Sinsheim and follow the signs to KLIMA ARENA.
