Following Švejk to Lipnice

In Humpolec, we set out from the Upper Square along Hradská Street straight into the forest park below Orlík. Here we face this climbing along the Jewish cemetery on the green Březina educational trail. We continue up to Orlík Castle, which has towered over the town since the 14th century. From the parking lot below Orlík, we continue on the educational trail to the Three Ponds. We turn left from the trail and after just under 400 meters, we join the blue tourist mark. After just under a kilometer, we turn right onto an unmarked road, which is more passable for bikes. After one kilometer, we reconnect with the blue trail and arrive at the crossroads with cycle route 4155, where we turn right. We pass through Orlovské forests, which are linked to the beginnings of the Czechoslovak scouting movement. Beyond the Nové Dvory crossroads, we continue on the cycle route further through the Loskoty settlement, where the yellow tourist marking joins. After just under a kilometer, cycle route 4155 turns right, but we stay on the yellow trail, from where we go with a gentle ascent to the Gothic castle founded by the lords of Lichtenburk. One of the most massive noble castles, Lipnice, is a destination for many Czech and foreign filmmakers. The place is associated with the writer Jaroslav Hašek, who created his Švejk at the inn U České Koruny. The well-known writer is buried in the local cemetery. In Lipnice, we also find the National Wiretapping Memorial. Here we can visit two rock monuments, The Mouth and The Ear. The Golden Eyes are less than two kilometers from Lipnice. Near Lipnice is also the Jaroslav Hašek Monument called Head XXII.

From Lipnice, we head out along cycle routes 19 and 1211, facing a long descent on a winding road down to the Kamenná Trouba pond. Turning left, we leave both cycle routes and arrive at Kejžlice. From here, cycle route 1214 leads us through the villages of Budíkov and Světlice back to Humpolec, where our trip began.
