Enjoy the sea breeze and archipelago views on the Öja cycling route
A beautiful circular route from Kokkola city center to the atmospheric fishing village of Öja. The route partly follows the Archipelago Road of the Seven Bridges and is ideal for a day trip.
The Öja cycling route passes through a varied archipelago landscape over several bridges. The scenery is dominated by the sea, seaside summer villas with swimming huts, and traditional field and farmland landscapes. The well-maintained light traffic route runs along Rantatie but occasionally slips into the shelter of trees. During the summer, there are also resting benches along the route where you can take a break.
Along Öjantie, more rural scenery is visible, and the halfway resting spot, Cafe Bryggan, located in the old fishing village, offers visitors a unique archipelago environment with activities and nature experiences. Salty sea baths, peaceful nature, and local food are always easily available.
Bryggan is also the starting point for the city’s most praised hiking route, the Öja Archipelago Trail.
Öja beach offers swimming opportunities and an impressive diving tower with a vine.
Hop on your bike and start enjoying the sea breeze and archipelago views!

Roadbook
The route starting from Kauppatori in the center of Kokkola follows the Archipelago Road of the Seven Bridges (road 749), which passes through the varied landscape of the archipelago towards Pietarsaari. Along the shallow city strait, Suntti, you can see both Kokkola's historical sites (Old Town Neristan, English Park, Crown Bailiff's House) and the city's newest park areas (Brita Maria Park opened in autumn 2018). Turning onto the light traffic route towards Öja, you ride along Rantatie, which takes you through seaside summer villas and rural landscapes. At Öja village shop (about 12 km from the starting point), turn right and continue on Öjantie for about 4 km. The summer-open Cafe Bryggan is a great halfway resting spot where you can enjoy treats at the pier café, refresh yourself at the adjacent beach, and gather energy for the return trip. From Bryggan, the journey continues along Öjantie, which returns to Rantatie. Turn left and head back towards Kokkola.
