Experience the diversity of maritime nature on Öjan Saaristopolku

Öjan Saaristopolku, the longest hiking route in Kokkola, appeals even to the more experienced hiker. The scenery varies from maritime atmospheres to dark forest stretches and rocky screes.
On Öjan Saaristopolku, you will experience maritime nature and can sit and enjoy the day on the seaside rock, feeling the wind in your hair. The nature trail starting point is located at the parking lot next to the Öja village center and Café Bryggan, where you can also find the area map. From the same place, a 12 km circular route of Håkin starts. The archipelago trail is well marked on the terrain, and local villagers are constantly maintaining the route. The route can be shortened and altered quite easily by cutting through forest roads. The trail features many cliffs, scree fields, root-strewn and rocky paths, long boardwalks, and, of course, the seashore. The trail is very wet in many places, especially in spring, and the rocks and roots can be slippery, so waterproof and sturdy footwear are recommended.

The archipelago trail is at its best in summer and autumn, provided you remember to protect yourself against ticks. In spring, there is a lot of water in the terrain, and in winter the route is easiest to walk perhaps with snowshoes due to its unevenness. In a good ice season, you can ski along the shores.

Directions
The starting point for Öjan Saaristopolku, Café Bryggan, is located in Öja, about 17 km from the center of Kokkola. Drive from the center of Kokkola onto the Pohjoisväylä, which continues as road 749 towards Pietarsaari. Continue for about 11 km until you reach Öja-Market. Turn right (signposted Bodö 4) onto Öjantie, continue about 4 km. Turn right next to the school, and continue to the shore where Café Bryggan is located.Coordinates
