Over 14 km, the cycle path passes the Schiller Church in Jena-East, so named because Friedrich von Schiller married Charlotte von Legefeld here in 1790. Further along, the cycle path passes the village churches of Jenaprießnitz, Großlöbichau, and Kleinlöbichau. Information boards along the cycle path provide details about the church buildings, which can also be visited.
In Thalbürgel, the impressive monastery church is located on the cycle path. The church, built from the 12th century of a former Benedictine monastery, impresses with its size, architectural details such as the richly decorated columns at the entrance portal, and the clear Romanesque interior.
The cycle path runs from Jena through the Gembden valley uphill to Kleinlöbichau. From the route, there are repeatedly beautiful panoramic views into the Saale valley, the Glei valley, and the Thuringian woodlands due to the open location of the cycle path.
The church cycle path can be well combined from Thalbürgel with the Thuringian Mill Cycle Path and the Saale cycle path into a circular route.
