Roadbook
From the marketplace in Bad Mergentheim, we cycle towards the Residenzschloss and take the bike path “Lovely Tauber Valley - The Classic” to the right. This leads us at the end of Kapuzinerstraße to the left along the castle garden (Igersheim 3.2 km). Passing the outdoor pool, we cycle left of the Tauber River onwards to Igersheim. Via Markelsheim and Elpersheim, “The Classic” leads through the Tauber Valley to Weikersheim. The Renaissance castle with its magnificent baroque castle garden is very worthwhile visiting.
Now we orient ourselves along the “Hohenlohe Residence Path”, which leads us via Laudenbach and Vorbachzimmern to Niederstetten. There we go straight on over the Bahnhofstraße and right into Lange Gasse, which we follow in a left curve up to Schlossberg. We walk up the long stairs to Haltenbergstetten Castle.
Then we continue out of town on Hollenbacher Straße towards Sichertshausen. We cross a bridge, reach an intersection, and turn left onto the country road. Behind Sichertshausen, we come onto the B290, briefly turn left and then right to continue on the country road.
In Bartenstein, we visit Bartenstein Castle (private property). The strenuous path through Ettenhausen, Herrentierbach, Billingsbach, and further through the forest to Atzenrod is marked by the Kraichgau-Hohenlohe Trail, which we follow up to Langenburg. There, Langenburg Castle impresses with its castle and automobile museum high above the Jagst Valley. Next, we proceed on the Kocher-Jagst Cycle Path to Ober- and Unterregenbach, Eberbach, and Buchenbach. Along the Jagst, we cycle through Heimhausen and past the St.-Anna Chapel to Hohebach. Here, we turn right over the Jagst bridge, then slightly right onto the bike path to Dörzbach.
We follow the B19 and cycle left behind the Trinity Church to Eyb Castle (private property). From the main street, we turn right onto Mühlgartenstraße, then left onto Sonnenhalde. We reach the country road, which we follow right and through Laibach. At the quarry, we turn right uphill, keep left towards Rengershausen, and continue through town on Goldbachstraße in the direction of Stuppach.
Here, we admire in the Parish Church of the Coronation of Mary the famous Marian painting by Matthias Grünewald, the “Stuppach Madonna.” The signage for “Lovely Tauber Valley” leads us past Neunkirchen back to the center of Bad Mergentheim.
