A circular route past historical sites - unfortunately only still imaginable - in one of the richest archaeological regions in northern Bavaria. The finds can be admired in the museums of the region.

The start of the route is the Bleichwasen car park in Kitzingen-Etwashausen (below the Old Main Bridge). You cycle through the recreational facilities to the Nordbrücke and cross the Main. Over the Kitzingen Eselsberg we cycle to Buchbrunn. On the grounds of the Verbandsschule there is a Linear Pottery longhouse (Stone Age experience). Through the village you go over a hollow way up into the Gaulandschaft. You cross the B8 and reach Repperndorf. On the field path you reach the exposed location of a burial mound. Over the Eherieder Mühlbach, at the edge of the village of Kaltensondheim, you continue across the fields. The mighty bergfried of the moated castle in the center of Erlach shows us the way to Zeubelried, known for the Zeubelried Moor. The cycle path leads over the agriculturally used elevated area until it descends again into the Main valley to Segnitz. The "Segeum" burial ground museum displays finds from a burial ground of the Bronze and Hallstatt periods, as well as burials from the Bell-Beaker culture. A detour to Marktbreit (on the other side of the Main), a former Roman town, is worthwhile. Following the Main northwards, you come to the beautiful wine village of Sulzfeld a. Main with a well-preserved town wall. Passing vineyards, we reach Kitzingen, our starting point.

    Author’s recommendation

There is not always an (open) place to stop along the way, so be sure to take enough water and provisions for a picnic with you.

The route is only partially suitable for road cyclists, as it also includes some gravel paths.

The route leads between Segnitz and Sulzfeld a. Main on the ST2270 - here it is very winding and narrow. Please be careful!
