Safety information
An "introductory tour" also requires experience in alpine terrain. Due to the constant changes in the glacier, it is advisable to consult the competent hut manager Christoph Eder before the tour. There are numerous crevasse zones on the glacier and in poor visibility the descent in particular quickly becomes challenging.
ATTENTION: GPS tracks for glaciers should be treated with caution. Due to constant changes, the optimal route can change significantly.

Roadbook
The tour can be done in both directions (clockwise or anti-clockwise). The better option depends heavily on the condition of the glacier. In 2012, the more favourable variant was clockwise, so the steeper passages could be mastered on the ascent.
From the hut, follow the marked hiking trail in a south-easterly direction towards "Brunnenkogel - Taschachferner". After a few exposed sections secured with chains, there is a fork in the path just after a stone with a memorial plaque. Here we follow the more southerly path (from the right), which quickly gains altitude. Initially a well-travelled path, it soon becomes more difficult to find and follows the markings over boulders until you finally have to find the best path yourself. The glacier tongue is reached at an altitude of around 2700 metres. The route initially climbs steeply (up to a maximum of 35 degrees) and then flattens out. The trail always runs close to the east face of the Pitztal Urkunds as far as the Urkundsattel, 3060 metres (watch out for crevasses at the saddle). From the saddle, a path leads eastwards to the Taschach Joch and from there to the Wildspitze. We turn westwards and descend the glacier again. Shortly below the Urkundsattel, there is an option to reach the south-east ridge of the Pitztaler Urkund via the south flank and to reach the summit via this (section II). We continue downhill and move away from the Pitztaler Urkund. Contrary to what is still noted on the AV map, the optimal route is now not along the south side of the Urkund, but as far south as possible on the glacier. After a final steep section (up to 35 degrees), we reach the Sexegertental valley. Back at an altitude of around 2700 metres, we leave the glacier on the northern edge, cross the stream and follow first climbing tracks and then a clear path towards Taschachhaus. The path directly below the Pitztaler Urkund should be avoided due to falling rocks (hence the crossing of the stream).

Public transport
By train to Imst (IC stop) and from there by bus to Mittelberg valley station.Directions
Take the A12 motorway to the "Imst" exit and follow the signs to Pitztal. In Pitztal drive to Mandarfen and just after the end of the village turn right to "Parkplatz Talstation Gletscherbahn".But this is not the end of the "journey" - as the tour starts from the hut, you still have to climb up to the Taschachhütte. Simply follow the signs to Taschachtal or look up the tour "Taschachhütte".
Parking
At the valley station, take the car park on the far right, right next to the start of the hiking trail.Coordinates
