Do not enter the via ferrata during thunderstorms under any circumstances!Roadbook
Day 1: Südwandbahn - Windlegerkar - Adamekhütte
The route starts along the comfortable hiking trail from the Südwandbahn parking lot via the Südwandhütte and along the impressive Dachstein south face. Through the gate, you enter the Windlegerkar, which you ascend. Along the way, you can catch a glimpse of the longest ridge of the Eastern Alps, the Windlegergrat. Via some sections resembling a via ferrata, it takes about 2 hours to go from the Windlegerscharte to the Adamekhütte.
Day 2: Adamekhütte - Hoher Dachstein - Edelgrieskar - Südwandbahn
In about 45 minutes, you reach the glacier from the hut, which should not be underestimated. From the upper Windlucke, you proceed via the secured easy via ferrata to the summit of the Hoher Dachstein. The descent follows the longer and more difficult via ferrata to the slope between the Seetalerhütte and the Südwandbahn. (As an alternative without the summit, you can reach the Hallstatt glacier from the Adamekhütte via the Steinerscharte.) Here you can opt for descending by cable car. Alternatively, you reach the Edelgrieskar through the Rosmarienstollen (some somewhat tricky passages) and back to the starting point.
