The Alta Via delle Dolomiti no. 7 stretches for approximately 36 kilometres in the Alpago foothills and follows in the footsteps of Lothar Patéra, the Austrian mountaineering pioneer after whom the itinerary is named. Departing from Rifugio Dolomieu al Dolàda, in Pieve d'Alpago, and arriving in Tambre, the route extends along the limestone ridge of Col Nudo-Cavallo, which divides the lower basin of Piave from that of the Friulian streams Vajont and Cellìna, on the border between the provinces of Belluno and Pordenone. Equipped with safety frames, which allow you to move along even the most difficult stretches, the Alta Via no.7 is shorter than the other roads of the Dolomites and can be walked in 5 days, with an average altitude of 2000 metres. The only difficulty during the journey in these mountains may be the lack of water, so it is better to bring with you sufficient stocks for at least two days of travel. With a diameter of about 10 kilometres, the Alpàgo basin, which overlooks Lake Santa Croce and houses five small municipalities (Puos, Tambre, Chies, Pieve and Farra), has become a reference point for fans of extreme sports such as paragliding, hang gliding and windsurfing. The first stage comprises the optional (but recommended) climb of  Col Nudo: overall, it is not too difficult, and the route is of singular beauty with the glacial-karst environment of the high mountains. In the last section, you go up to Monte Cavallo and Cimón di Palantìna and finish the itinerary in Col Ìndes, in the municipality of Tambre, after having also crossed an outlying area of the Bosco del Cansiglio.
