TransDolomites
Founded in 2006, the association's main goal is to promote an ambitious project: the construction of a new railway connection between the city of Trento and Penia di Canazei, passing through the scenic Avisio Valleys.
This initiative aims to offer a new perspective on sustainable and mindful accessibility to the Dolomites, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, while helping reduce road traffic and pollution and offering a meaningful alternative to car travel.
It's a vision that seeks to generate tangible benefits for tourism, the local economy, and the quality of life for year-round valley residents.
Transdolomites envisions a future where both locals and visitors can travel comfortably via efficient and stress-free rail public transport.
Yet this is not merely about moving from place to place — it's about rediscovering the region in an authentic and responsible way.
From this vision comes the idea of a natural, historical, and cultural trail from Lavis to Val di Fassa, designed to showcase enchanting landscapes and the roots of a project born long ago: the Lavis-Moena tramway.
Although it was never built due to strategic decisions linked to World War I, the Ora-Predazzo railway was completed instead and operated from 1918 to 1963.
It is on this historic proposal that Transdolomites invites reflection: how important would a train serving our valleys be today, to foster mobility that is respectful, effective, and environmentally harmonious?
