Frankenwald
Frankenwald - Outside. With us.
As the first region in Bavaria, the Frankenwald was awarded the seal "Quality Region Walkable Germany" by the German Hiking Association. For this, over 40 criteria had to be met regarding hiking trail networks and infrastructure, hosts and (hiking) services for guests. We are also one of the "Best of Hiking" regions.
Our current 30 FrankenwaldSteigla, half-day and full-day tours ranging between 5 and 18 kilometers (all circular routes), and our 243.5-kilometer long Fern-Rundwanderweg FrankenwaldSteig offer a hiking experience for all senses. "Hear silence", "Breathe space" and "Understand the forest" are the three overarching themes with which hikers can explore the Frankenwald in all its facets. The entire hiking trail network in the Frankenwald covers more than 4,200 kilometers of marked hiking trails, all excellently marked, signposted, and maintained by the Frankenwald Association and its volunteer trail wardens.
There is also a colorful variety of routes for cyclists and mountain bikers in the Frankenwald for all fitness levels. Bike fun trails on the Döbraberg or leisurely family bike tours along the deep valleys with their colorful, species-rich meadows - from the ambitious recreational cyclist to the mountain bike professional, everyone will find something. For multi-day bike tours, the Main Cycle Route, which runs from the confluence of the Main near Kulmbach to Mainz, is ideal.
From May to October, cyclists can also use the "3fmobil," a bus network with bicycle trailers that helps overcome many inclines and allows for easy rolling downhill. Since 2021, the network connects destinations in the Frankenwald, Fichtel Mountains, and Franconian Switzerland.
More and more trail runners are also discovering the varied trails of the uplands, and numerous running events invite participants to start.
