Section Beckum - the mountaineering club in Münsterland

We are the mountaineering club in southeastern Münsterland, located in the triangle between Bielefeld, Dortmund, and Münster. Our over 1,400 members come from the Warendorf district and the surrounding regions. As a member club, we belong to the German Alpine Club, the largest mountaineering club in the world.

In our groups you can hike, mountaineer, ski, climb, and make new contacts and friendships with like-minded people.

Since 1997, we also own our own climbing facility in the Phoenix Leisure Park in Beckum, incidentally the first of its kind to have construction funded by the state of NRW. With 800 sqm of climbing area and a separate bouldering wall, it offers climbing enjoyment at all difficulty levels.

Since 2003, we have proudly owned our own cabin, the Weidmannsruh hiking lodge in the Thuringian Forest. Located just south of the Rennsteig trail, it is an excellent base for hiking and mountain biking tours. The nearby mountain lake invites you to swim in summer. A large playground also makes the area attractive for families with children.

In winter, a groomed cross-country ski trail begins directly at the cabin. Overall, the municipality grooms 60 km of trails near the cabin with direct connections to Oberhof. Alpine skiing options are available in Oberhof and at the Große Inselsberg.

For climbers, various climbing areas are accessible from the cabin. An overview of climbable rocks can be found at felsinfo.alpenverein.de.
