Brněnská Výškovnice

The author and maintainer of the Brno Elevation Project is the Tábornický klub Korýši (as a certain contrast to the name "Softies"). The club was founded as a scouting club of the Czech Scouting Union at the end of 1997. It brings together several once young people interested in everything possible, especially nature, hiking, organizing social events in nature, a sense of humor, and also a positive attitude towards Brno. Most of its members consider club membership a leisure activity, and their participation varies over time.

The idea to create this project arose from an original, considerably more modest plan to arrange several trips from Brno to points of the Brno Elevation in 2002. Due to disagreements about the execution of these trips for the public, the proposal was made to leave the trips to the independence of participants and to check participation by introducing summit logs at individual peaks.

After one and a half years of preparation, the event was launched on January 1, 2004. Its operation is continuously managed by about 6 people. We would also like to extend our thanks to all non-Korýši collaborators for their assistance in organizing this event.

Definition

An elevation related to a certain point is defined as the set of all peaks (ridges, hills, mountains, etc.) that are the highest in a certain surrounding area. We can also say that it consists precisely of those peaks that are the closest in terms of their altitude to this point.

In the case of the Brno Elevation, the reference point is the plague column at Freedom Square in Brno. Peaks that meet the above condition lie also beyond the national borders, but we limit ourselves only to those located within the Czech Republic.
