Bad Hersfeld

Bad Hersfeld

Cultural diversity, closeness to nature, and historic ambiance

Located in the center of Germany, directly on the German Timber-Frame Road, is the spa and festival town of Bad Hersfeld. The city's tourist offerings range from art, culture, and various events to nature and health.

The town's unique feature is the Monastery Ruins, which not only serve as the venue for the festival but are also considered the oldest Romanesque church ruins in Europe. Other attractions include the Katharinen Tower, the Seasonal Spa Park, and the historic old town with over 200 listed buildings, numerous small shops, and a wide range of dining options.

During the summer months, Bad Hersfeld transforms for eight weeks into a magnet for culture enthusiasts, who can experience a colorful mix of plays, musicals, and concerts at the festivals. The monastery district grounds also serve as a venue for various events such as the Swing & Wine Festival or the Christmas Market of Dreams. However, the most famous and traditional event is the Lullus Festival, the oldest folk festival in Germany.

The historic old town is characterized by its medieval charm with approximately 200 listed half-timbered houses, winding alleys, numerous shopping opportunities, and a wide range of dining options.

Additionally, Bad Hersfeld offers its visitors a variety of other activities. Besides various city tours, including museum and exhibition visits, there are also diverse hiking trails such as the Katharinen and Haukuppen paths that extend near the city center. For cyclists, there are various options for day trips along the Fulda River, former railway trails, or following the path of German unity.

The two healing springs Lullus and Vitalis give the town the designation of a spa town, while the Seasonal Spa Park offers a place to unwind and relax. Conference and event facilities are available in the adjacent city hall as well as in the Schilder Hall.

For families, Bad Hersfeld offers a lot with the knowledge and adventure world "wortreich", the city rally along with the little knight Hefi, the Solztal children’s path, the Jahnpark sports and leisure park, as well as the AquaFit or the Geistal outdoor pool.
