From Lofer to Straubing via the Loferer Alm and Steinplatte
The first section of the trail to Kalvarienberg, the Braugföllalm, and on to the Loferer Alm consists of a beautiful trail with great views into the distance.
The trail to the Loferer Alm and on to the Klemmerichsteig runs along forest trails and open roads.
The Klemmerichsteig trail to the Steinplatte is quite an adventure. It winds through the forest for a long stretch over log bridges—some sections are steep and require climbing aids.
After crossing the ski runs, you then hike back to the Steinplatte high-altitude parking lot on gravel and asphalt.
The final section, passing through the Durchkaseralmen and around the Eggenalmkogel, is mostly a beautiful trail with magnificent panoramic views.
Once you arrive at the Straubinger Haus, you can enjoy the view of the Wilder Kaiser in addition to the comfort of the hut.
Author’s recommendation
On the long route, you can enjoy a hearty meal at the Loferer Alm at Gasthof Schönblick (located near the trail) and at the Stallenalm.

Roadbook
From the parking lot, we head right past the parish church toward the west , toward the Augustenpromenade. At the signpost for Kalvarienberg, we turn right uphill and climb up to Kalvarienberg.
After the chapel, the trail leads straight uphill to the Braugföllalm (the path to the right is longer). At the signpost after the Braugföllalm, we take the trail to the Loferer Alm via the Grubhörndl. After a long, steep ascent, we reach the ridge below a transmission tower and descend on the other side across alpine pastureland to a forest road.
Following this trail, we take a long left turn to reach the paved road that leads down to the heart of the Loferer Alm. At the junction, we turn left and follow the road and the path branching off to the left to reach the start of the Klemmerichsteig. We follow this trail for a long time, going up and down—sometimes steeply—over bridges through the forest until we reach the first lift of the Steinplatte ski area.
Following alpine trails, we cross the downhill slopes and reach the road that leads past the Stallenalm to the Steinplatte high-altitude parking lot.
Behind the parking lot, the trail begins that leads to the alpine pasture path of the Durchkaseralmen, which we follow toward and through the alpine pastures. Toward the end of the last alpine pasture, we come upon the “Alpin Gletscherblick” premium hiking trail, which takes us to the Straubinger Haus.
