The Vuonteenkoski lean-to is located in the lower part of the rapids and serves both fishermen and paddlers on the Kainuu Tar Route water hiking trail.
Located at the end of Vuonteenkoski rapid in Kuhmo, the lean-to is close to the shore and you can enjoy your picnic while admiring the rapids.
The way to the fireplace leads via Halkoahontie Street in the village of Niva.

The driving distance to Vuonteenkoski rapids from Kuhmo city centre is about 40 kilometres.
The route to Vuonteenkoski is via Halkoahontie street. At the end of the dirt road that branches off from the road, there is a turning point and signpost to Vuonteenkoski. The path is initially a wider forest road. The path to the rapids forks to the left after half a kilometre before it starts to climb uphill. This junction is easy to miss, so be careful to avoid extra walking.
After a couple of hundred metres, the trail ends at the lean-to at the bottom of the rapids. The track is easy to find, for example on the free hiking map application Retkikartta.fi .
