An der Stelle des heutigen Forstamtes in Birkenfeld, befand sich früher die Birkenfelder Synagoge.

Das ehemalige Gotteshaus wurde 1862 erbaut und bei der Reichspogromnacht (9.11. – 10.11.1938) so stark beschädigt, dass sie nicht mehr nutzbar war. 1939 wurde sie schließlich abgerissen. Am 9.11.1988 wurde ein Gedenkstein in Andacht an die schrecklichen Taten, des 3. Reiches errichtet.
