Selected alternatives for you

Monti Lattari and Amalfi Coast: Amalfi La Pineta Park, Mad Bats Path, Furore Fjord, Fisher Fox Path, Love Walk, Agave in Bloom Path, Barbanera Path, Santa Barbara Caves, Raven’s Nests Path, Path of the Gods, Nocelle and arrival in Positano.

Hike connecting two symbolic places of the Amalfi Coast with a route near the coast for the first part up to the Furore Fjord – and then moving a little away to connect at the end with the ultra-famous Path of the Gods.

An alternative "more internal" connection can be the hike → From Amalfi to Positano bypassing the Agerola Plateau.

It is clear that between Amalfi and Positano there are countless possible variants, and it would be nice to plan a round trip in two days with an overnight stay in one of the two places.

For connections (starting from our base in Salerno) today we relied only on buses because, for this year, the boat service starts in mid-May – therefore, in low season a "scenic disadvantage" to reach the area, but a great opportunity to find the Furore Fjord without a soul and enjoy it quietly.

In any case – bus or boat – it is always advisable to organize yourself with public transport for these beautiful crossings on the Amalfi Coast.

    Author’s recommendation

Some of the published photos are taken in vertical format due to the "tightness of photographic spaces" available.

They do not display well in preview format, and it is better to view them in full screen mode to clearly understand the aspect of some settings.

With this hike, and/or its possible variants, you can complete a nice Amalfi-Positano-Castellammare triangle – for the other two sides of the triangle you can refer, as a base idea, to the routes:

All these crossings can be planned in both directions.

    Tips and suggestions

To have a complete overview of routes traveled and described on the Monti Lattari, you can refer to the link → Monti Lattari - Sorrento Peninsula - Amalfi Coast.

    Roadbook

    Premise

This route was traveled on May 3, 2021, and all subsequent observations and considerations are fully valid only for that day.

This Amalfi-Positano version is entirely on routes mapped on hiking maps of the area, both the CAI Monti Lattari and those in the Amalfi Coast "cart&guide" series.

The entire route is included in OpenStreetMap and its derivatives.

Given all this basic documentation, just a bit of attention is enough and you won't get lost even if it is your first time as in our case.

    ↓

Leaving Amalfi you follow the seafront and ascend entering the La Pineta Park.

From here you proceed via stairways and paved sections up to a segment on asphalt road after the Vettica Cemetery.

Then stairs again uphill up to another short asphalt section that passes beneath the village of Furore, and then descending you take the narrow stairway of Via Acquarola – from there you enter a wider little road up to a left hairpin where the descent towards the Furore Fjord begins via the Mad Bats Path.

The Mad Bats Path is a true "wild little path", today somewhat overgrown at the start and with a few fallen small trees here and there: narrow, sometimes steep with loose ground, but not problematic if you pay attention to where you put your feet.

On the way to the bottom of the Furore Fjord you find, with a very short detour, the former Portella Paper Mill in the dense undergrowth and then a structure built on a raised base that creates a small cave-shelter.

From the Marina di Furore beach you climb back up, with two possible routes, towards the Fisher Fox Path that connects the Furore Fjord with Sant'Elia.

After Sant'Elia there is the short Love Walk that introduces the Agave in Bloom Path: here end the comfortable paved or almost paved sections, and you continue on real hiking trails.

In the first part of the Agave in Bloom Path there are some narrow and exposed passages.

Then – paying attention to the correct turns for the various branches – you enter the Barbanera Path, divert towards the Pennino Path heading to the Santa Barbara Caves and arrive on the asphalt section that from Bomerano leads to the start of the Path of the Gods.

The section indicated by signage as Pennino Path is also called Raven’s Nests Path on some maps.

Following the beautiful and easy Path of the Gods (perhaps the most famous in the entire Amalfi Coast) you arrive at Nocelle, from where we continued towards Montepertuso avoiding much of the asphalt by taking the signposted "Old connecting path between the Montepertuso and Nocelle hamlets".

From Montepertuso the usual stairway down to Positano with arrival at the SITA bus stop of Positano-Sponda – in high season it is advisable to go to the port and return to the start by boat.

Excellent hiking map, very precise, with trails drawn after GPS surveys.

On the CAI Monti Lattari website all GPS trail tracks are available for download, with many interesting historical and environmental notes, as well as information on trail accessibility and possible closures.

The consultation interface is intuitive and it is very easy to plan any hike.
