The grey heron Ardea invites you to dive into the secrets of the animal and plant world at the Kinzig Reservoir together with him!
You will find the new educational and adventure trail “Ardea's Lake World” at the Kinzig Reservoir between Bad Soden-Salmünster and Steinau an der Straße. Here, both young and old visitors can learn more about the flora and fauna at the reservoir as well as about the dam and the reservoir itself together with the grey heron Ardea.
What functions does the protected area have, how has it developed over the years, and how exactly does such a reservoir work? Which animals and plants live in the protected landscape area, what do the animal inhabitants feed on, and how do they recover? All these questions and many more are answered during a visit to Ardea's Lake World.
Besides the adventure trail, there is also plenty of play fun at the large water playground with a ball track tower! For hunger in between, the boathouse Ardea's Lake World offers many regional delicacies, from fresh French fries to crispy baguettes and crunchy salads. The boathouse also provides a sweet break with creamy ice cream and juicy cakes.

A part of the educational and adventure trail shares the path with the long-distance cycling route R3. Therefore, we ask you to be careful on this section of the trail and to be considerate of all visitors.

Roadbook
The educational and adventure trail runs as a circular route around the Kinzig Reservoir between Bad Soden-Salmünster and Steinau an der Straße. On the northeastern part of the reservoir, the path does not run directly along the shore but over meadows and forest paths to the sewage treatment plant.
Around the lake, you will find 16 different thematic islands that deal with the nature at the reservoir, thus the animal and plant inhabitants, as well as the reservoir and the dam itself. In addition to interactive information boards and various games, there are many exciting movement elements such as a boulder fish, a zipline, hopping leaves, and a bird-watching station waiting for the young and old visitors.
The educational and adventure trail can be started at any point around the reservoir and can be walked in both directions. However, starting at the welcome station is recommended.

Public transport
From Steinau an der Straße train station, an approximately half-hour walk leads through town and forest to the Kinzig Reservoir.Directions
The Kinzig Reservoir is easily accessible by car via the A66 Frankfurt - Fulda, and on site you can park for free at two large parking lots.
You can also reach the Kinzig Reservoir wonderfully by bicycle. The lake lies along the long-distance cycling route R3, which extends from the vineyards in Rheingau to the Rhön.
