Roadbook
The Kokkoharju route is marked in the terrain with yellow paint marks. The circular route can be walked in both directions. This route description guides clockwise.
The start of the Kokkoharju route is next to the Ukkohalla parking area on the shore of Syväjärvi by the hiking trail info board.
When walking clockwise, the route starts by climbing up the rightmost ski slope when viewed from below. At the beginning, you pass by the spa-restaurant building and then move to the slope. The climb to the top of Little Tuomivaara is challenging, with an elevation difference of about 150 meters. The strenuous climb is rewarded with magnificent fell views opening from above.
At the top of Little Tuomivaara, there is a guide sign leading toward the Vorlok Canyon. On the fell top, the route initially follows the old illuminated ski track base until after a little over a kilometer the path turns at an intersection into a narrower spruce forest. About 2 kilometers later, you arrive at the northern end of the Vorlok Canyon. The UKK trail also joins the path there. The trail follows the canyon for half a kilometer, offering great views into its depths.
From the Vorlok Canyon, the route descends through spruce forest down to the shore of the Liete River and continues along the river to the Paskokoski lean-to shelter. The rapid itself is about two hundred meters away. From the lean-to, it is about a kilometer to the Vorlok rental cabin, passing over the beautiful Hongikonsuo bog on duckboards. The path does not actually go through the cabin yard, but a detour there is possible. There is also a campfire site in the yard.
From the rental cabin, the route initially passes through varying forest and swamp landscapes until after just under two kilometers a high esker appears. You climb to the top of the esker via long wooden stairs. The path continues along dry heath on the east bank of the Liete River for a couple of kilometers to the Kokkoharju route junction.
From the junction, turn right toward Ukkohalla. The last part of the route leads first on dry heath but then through the Pirttilammi and Hyttisuo bogs toward the shore of Syväjärvi and the center of Ukkohalla.
