On the north side of the Veitsch, the toboggan run is one of the most popular spring ski tours in the surrounding area, and rightly so. The ambience is quite alpine and the famous interruption point, which is easy to negotiate in normal conditions, gives the tour a special flavour. The terrain is very varied and, due to its northerly exposure, is snow-sure for a long time, but not avalanche-safe. The tour is also often done in the height of winter, but then it is very cold due to the long period of shade! A fantastic view awaits at the summit. Optionally, you can also stop by the Graf-Meran-Haus from there.

    Author’s recommendation

Notes on the interruption point at 1600 m:In unfavourable conditions (hard snow, icing) crampons may be necessary. Always take them with you to be on the safe side! In particularly snowy winters, the ladder and the rocky steep section may be covered in snow. Then it may be possible for experienced climbers to use skis or to slip sideways (be careful!).

Wildkamm east flank: Ascent from the Gingatzwiese mostly on foot via the steep SE ridge or from Niederalpl. From the Großer Wildkamm ridge briefly over the ridge to the NE, then right into the very steep flank and left or better right of a rocky ridge into the flat ground, 1500 m, below the interruption point. A rewarding spring combination with a toboggan, as the eastern flank soon begins to firn up.

Orientation:From the Gingatzwiese in foggy weather very unpleasant and not without danger due to the interweaving! The pole markings on the plateau are then not sufficient! Take care in the summit area (switchbacks to the NW)

    Roadbook

Ascent:From the Gamsjäger, continue along the road for a short distance, then left on a small wooden bridge over the stream and along the edge of the forest next to a clearing into the valley. At a game feeding station on a forest road, continue along this for a short distance, then straight south through a forestation area back to the road. Follow this left back into the ditch and continue on the forest path (path no. 465) to point 1086 m. Now follow the red markings in the forest. The ascent becomes increasingly steep, at 1300 m out of the forest into a suddenly more serious environment. In the steep trench that develops, the toboggan into a floor at 1500 m, with a good view of the interruption point. Continue on a flatter slope, then up the short, steep flank to the interruption point (1600 m). With skis on your rucksack, follow the handrail rope to the leaning steel ladder, up this and again following a rope to the nearby exit at the start of a hollow. 2 hrs.

Through the hollow a little higher and to the right up a steep slope into the wide saddle of the Gingatzwiese, 1740 m, below the Wildkamm SE ridge. Continue southwards, initially through sparse, small spruce stands, then ascend the initially flat and blunt ridge higher up to a signpost, 1880 metres. To the SW onto a wide crest, then a slight loss of height and left around the pre-summit (measuring station) to the large summit cross. 1 ½ hours.

Ascent variant: After the interruption point, you can of course also stay in the hollow and reach the plateau through it. Follow the poles to the W to the summit.

Descent: As for the ascent or from the first wide crest, follow the poles directly to the E and round to the right at an interwoven trench. Soon after, turn left from the poles (no further to the Seebodenhütte) and head N into the trench, which is not very steep at first. This narrows and a steep narrow section follows at 1700 m (be careful, sometimes crosses to the N!). Turn right around the cornice and continue along the trench to the interruption point. After this through the hollow to 1350 m. At this point, alternatively cross out to the left to an open slope. There at 1200 m through partly dense forest back to the road at point 1086 m and back to the start as on the ascent.
