The trail leads us from the centre of Kranjska Gora, a winter and summer tourist centre, known for alpine world cup competitions and to nearby Planica, one of the world’s major ski jumping and ski flying centres. In summer, Planica is the trailhead of many alpine tours in the high mountains of the Julian Alps and the Karavanke mountain range. Kranjska Gora is also a sports training centre.

The trail continues along the left bank of the Sava Dolinka River, over Srednji Vrh and back to the valley, Gozd Martuljek, close to the Martuljški Slapovi waterfalls below Špik mountain. The village lies on the brinks of Triglav National Park, and the trail continues along the right bank of the Sava River, almost along the edges of Triglav National Park.

The trail offers magnificent views of the mountains of Martuljek, Vrtaško Sleme, Trupejevo Poldne and Kepa in the Karavanke. The trail runs through a peaceful part of Mojstrana, below the steep rocks of Grančišče (where a steep and panoramic ferata – protected climbing trail) runs to the Slovenian Alpine Museum at the entry point to the Vrata Valley.

    Author’s recommendation

The trail is predominantly flat only along the Sava Dolinka River, the ascent to the panoramic Srednji Vrh is more demanding.

    Tips and suggestions

Hint by Triglav National Park: The untamed Martuljek Mountain group

The majestic Mt. Martuljek group is one of the most spectacular and admired images in the Julian Alps. These impressive mountain peaks formed the core of one of the earliest protected areas in Slovenia (1949). Relatively secluded, the untamed rock faces of Mt. Martuljek are an important habitat for many plant and animal species. A marked trail runs to the gorge and further, to the two waterfalls of the Martuljek stream. This wild yet fragile natural environment requires respectful visitors who appreciate nature and keep to marked paths.

    Roadbook

The trail runs along a walking path through Čičare to Srednji Vrh and along the local road to Gozd Martuljek. From there it continues on forest paths and a cycling route (partially Jacob's Trail) to Mojstrana. At the TIC or in front of the Sports Hall in Kranjska Gora, turn north and walk towards the bus stop. Turn left behind it and come to an unpaved road, continue to the main road, cross it and cross the Sava River on the right side at the football field along the left bank of the Sava Dolinka River.

The trail slowly ascends towards the farms in Srednja vas. You can enjoy the beautiful views of Špik mountain and the entire Upper Sava River Valley. Turn right at the asphalt car park below the village and follow the paved road to the valley, i.e. to Gozd Martuljek. In the village, cross the main road Jesenice – Kranjska Gora and continue along a section of the cycling route, turn left and continue along the unpaved road to Martuljški Slapovi waterfalls.

The road turns across the bridge before the waterfalls and runs back towards the Sava Dolinka River and along a narrow path or cart track towards the east. Signs lead left across the bridge of the Sava Dolinka to the cycling route; continue for 3 kilometres until signs direct you to the right and an unpaved road and cart road, the trail continues across the meadows and forest clearings towards Mojstrana.

The trail runs behind the last houses in the village, right along the steep slope, past the turning for the Mojstrana Ferrata and to the main road Mojstrana – Vrata Valley. When you reach the road, turn left and after 100 metres the stage ends at the Slovenian Alpine Museum. The Slovenian Alpine Museum features the development of mountaineering in Slovenia and provides all the tourist information required by hikers. The Museum is located at the entry to the Vrata Valley, which is then closed by the more than 1000 metres high Triglav North Face.

Hi Sarah, I've checked their web and it sys that they open in May, so it may well be that tomorrow they're still closed.

Hi Sarah, Camp Kamne opens in May. The nearest campsite that is currently open is Camp Špik in Gozd Martuljek. Below, you can find the link to their webpage. https://www.camp-spik.com/en/ Have a wonderful day.

mi smo sledili opisu (brez ovinka proti Martuljškim slapovom).

A vseeno priporočam.

Zdravo.
