A limes a Római Birodalom védelmét szolgáló, a császárkorban létesített szárazföldi határvonal.
Ennek részét képezte ez a rekonstruált őrtorony rom is.
„A római hadviselés a 4. században alakult át. A hadsereg nagyobb részéből mozgó csapatokat szerveztek. A kerítőárok mellett kő kerítőfal is épült a tornyok köré. Ez az épülettípus – a saroktornyok hiánya ellenére is – inkább kis erődnek tartható, amelyben nem felváltott őrségek teljesítettek szolgálatot, hanem állandó (max. 20 fős) legénységgel látták el őket. Ilyen típusú kiserődből ötöt ismerünk Magyarország területéről, és ebből négy Pest megye területére esik. A Budapest, Római parti egészen új felfedezés, csak 2010 ben került elő. Kettő, a visegrád–lepencei és a leányfalusi látogatható.”
