Albsteig Black Forest Stage 3: Wittenschwand - St. Blasien leisure route
Narrow, partly pre-alpine trails with rocky slopes, magnificent views over the covered route, the Alb reservoir, and the Windberg gorge await you on this stage.
From the Dachsberghalle in Wittenschwand, you walk a quiet forest path into the Arnoldsloch and continue on an old smuggler's path to Höll. Here you climb the Bildstein rock, which offers a wide view over the southern Alb valley. Via partly steep sections, you go back down into the Alb valley where the path leads to the Alb reservoir. A water treading basin invites you to refresh yourself before you hike along natural paths and cross a long footbridge that half circles the lake. From the Albtalstraße, a narrow idyllic path leads over the Guckauchenloch and the Fünfwegscheid past small streams and rocks up to the sports ground in Häusern. Over the rock path, you walk further into the village. Trails and paths lead to the Windberg waterfall, from where it goes past impressive rocks to the junction of the Albsteig to St. Blasien. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the town before tackling the short route into the town center.

Roadbook
Today's stage starts at the Dachsberghalle. At the information board, you can absorb all the interesting topics about Dachsberg and the Albsteig one more time. Shortly thereafter, the path turns left onto a wide forest road. It goes downhill to the Arnoldsloch. Here you follow a road closed to street traffic for about 500 meters and then turn left onto a narrow path that gradually turns into a trail. As soon as the path turns into a pre-alpine, rocky descent, you have reached the old smuggler's path. The trail continues through the forest and zigzags down to Höll. At the street, the path turns left and follows it for a few meters. At the next intersection, turn left again onto a forest road that leads first gently and later increasingly steeply up to the Bildstein rock. Once at the top, a wonderful view over the Alb valley and the already covered route is offered. From the Bildstein rock, the path leads partly very steeply down into the slopes of the Alb valley. Having reached a wide forest road, the path turns left and follows this to the Alb reservoir. Here, various resting benches and a water treading area invite you to linger. The path continues along the Alb reservoir. It is crossed via a long footbridge. Then it continues a bit to the right along the road, on the opposite side of which the Albsteig then climbs towards Höchenschwand and Häusern. A narrow, idyllic path leads over the Guckauchenloch and the Fünfwegscheid past small streams and rocks partially very steeply up to the sports field in Häusern. From there, the B500 is crossed under and you turn left onto the rock path. Upon entering the village, there is still the opportunity to take a rest. Then the path continues through the village, which is left via a wide forest road. The path becomes narrower and then leads on a trail over roots and stones and several bridges through the Windberg gorge to the Windberg waterfall. Here the path runs parallel to the Schluchtensteig Schwarzwald, offering numerous hiking combination possibilities. After the waterfall, the path turns left towards St. Blasien. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the town and the mighty St. Blasius Cathedral before tackling the short route into the town center.
