Ostweg Stage 9: Bad Dürrheim Sunthausen - Geisingen
On today’s stage, we leave the Black Forest and move along the western edge of the Swabian Jura. We start in Sunthausen, go under the highway, and quickly gain altitude on the path past the Waldhornhütte. At Haugenrain, we reach the first of several wonderful panoramic viewpoints on this stage. At the entrance to Öfingen, the sunny village of the Baar, we pass a holiday village with lovely holiday cottages. From here, too, there is a magnificent distant view over the Baar towards the Black Forest. In good conditions, the view extends to the peaks of the Swiss Alps.
Across fields and meadows, the path goes through the Albtrauf Baar nature reserve, first over the hill Auf den Rainen with another wonderful panoramic view. Then the path continues into the forest and with a longer ascent up to the Blatthalde. At the Blatthaldehütte there is another viewpoint. We continue at the same altitude past Roßberg and finally descend into the Danube valley to our destination Geisingen.
A decidedly scenic route with two longer ascents up to Öfingen and later up to the Blatthalde.
