Tierart is one of the largest wildlife rescue stations in Germany and offers a peaceful sanctuary for native wildlife, confiscated exotic animals, and so-called livestock, as well as big cats.
The TIERART wildlife rescue center near Maßweiler cares for injured, orphaned, and sick native wild and domestic animals as well as confiscated exotics. This includes, among others, tigers, pumas, wildcats, raccoons, foxes, deer, sheep, and goats. After successful rearing or medical treatment, the animals are released back into nature. Animals that cannot be rewilded for various reasons are cared for in species-appropriate enclosures at TIERART permanently.
While the animals may live "in peace" at TIERART, a unique exhibition tells the story of animals in war, their involuntary tasks, their suffering, and their deaths. It also tells of heroes and friends, of animals that save human lives in war. A 5000 square meter underground bunker built during World War II, once a storage facility for nuclear warheads, now provides the setting for this unique exhibition.
We would like to point out that the extensive grounds are unfortunately not yet barrier-free and some stairs must be navigated. Due to free-running animals, we also ask for your understanding that dogs are not allowed.
Attention!
You can reach TIERART via the L475, not via Maßweiler (coming from Thaleischweiler-Fröschen or Rieschweiler-Mühlbach: exit Wallhalben, not Maßweiler).
