Auch die Nachbarregionen Kreis Heinsberg, Kreis Düren, die Deutschsprachige Gemeinschaft Ostbelgien, Belgisch Limburg sowie die Provinzen Süd- und Midden-Limburg verfügen über vollständig ausgeschilderte Knotenpunktsysteme, mit denen das städteregionale Knotenpunktsystem lückenlos verknüpft ist. Für den Bereich der Stadt Aachen wird derzeit ebenfalls die Einführung des Knotenpunktsystems geplant und soll in den nächsten Jahren umgesetzt werden.
