Der südwestlich von Zillhausen gelegene Wasserfall zeigt eindrucksvoll die typischen "Wasserfallschichten" des Mitteljura im Grenzbereich des Opalinustons (früherer Braunjura alpha und beta). Der Büttenbach hat sich tief in das Gestein eingeschnitten und fällt hier rund 24 m in die Tiefe. Er erschließt dem Betrachter ein beeinruckendes Naturschauspiel. Seine ganze Imposanz zeigt er vor allem nach langen Regenfällen. Spektakulär ist der Wasserfall im Winter, wenn der Wasserlauf vollkommen zu Eis erstarrt ist. Eine Stahltreppe ermöglicht den Abstieg zum Bachbett.

Die Entstehung des Wasserfalls wird anhand einer Infotafel erklärt. Kombinieren lässt sich dieses Naturschauspiel mit dem GeoWanderweg, im Laufe dessen weitere geologische Besonderheiten entdeckt werden können.
