During the construction of the cabin, the site required for the industrial buildings was leveled and graded.
The excess soil was deposited in numerous soil storage areas, known as dumps. At these sites, a distinction was made between topsoil and other excavated material. At a location known as Hillenholz (field name), a topsoil dump is still clearly visible. Approximately 12 million cubic meters of soil were relocated—in some cases, simply moved—since the smelter’s construction site had significant variations in elevation. In addition, there was the excavated soil from the branch canal.
