Die Spitzhaustreppe wurde um 1747–50 nach einer Idee von August dem Starken und dem Entwurf von Daniel Pöppelmann angelegt, als Verbindung zwischen Weingut Hoflößnitz und dem Spitzhaus. Das Spitzhaus gehört zu den ältesten Lusthäusern der Lößnitz.
1992–93 ist die alte baufällige Treppe völlig neu gebaut worden. Sie führt direkt durch die Weinberge und hat 397 Stufen. Der Aufstieg wird durch ein wunderbaren Ausblick über das Elbtal, die Stadt Radebeul und die Landeshauptstadt Dresden belohnt. 2005 fand hier der erste Mt. Everest Treppenmarathon statt, welcher seitdem jährlich durchgeführt wird.

Es lohnt sich aber auch ein paar Tage länger zu bleiben und sich die Stadt mit seinen Sehenswürdigkeiten anzusehen oder Dresden zu besuchen. Eine Weingaststätte direkt am Beginn der unteren Treppe und zahlreiche Winzer laden darüber hinaus zu einem Glas Wein ein. Die Lößnitzgundbahn von Radebeul über Moritzburg nach Radeburg verläuft in unmittelbarer Nähe und es ist ein imposanter Anblick, wenn sich der Zug mit seiner Dampflok durch den Lößnitzgrund windet.

Mit der Bahn: Vom Hauptbahnhof Dresden bzw. vom Bahnhof Dresden Neustadt fahren Sie mit der S-Bahn S1 nach Radebeul Weintraube. Von dort aus sind es rund 15 Minuten zu Fuß in Richtung Weinberge.

Mit der Straßenbahn Linie 4 von Dresden bzw. aus Richtung Weinböhla nutzen Sie bitte die Haltestelle Wasastraße. Von da aus sind es noch ca. 10 Minuten zu Fuß.
