Die im Jahre 1296 erbaute Burgruine Ehrenberg bietet alles, was Sie von einem mittelalterlichen Schloss erwarten, wehrhafte Mauern, hohe Türme und viel Geschichte. Die gotische Burganlage beherbergte Kaiser und Könige, Fürsten und Zaren hier wurde wahrhaft Geschichte geschrieben. Nehmen Sie zwischen den Mauern Platz und hören Sie in sich hinein, im Wispern des Bergwindes vernehmen Sie die Stimmen der Vergangenheit und träumen von längst vergangenen Zeiten.
Die Geschichte
Wo die Geschichte schweigt, beginnt die Sage. Solange das Burg bestand, wurde auch gebaut, so dass sich Bauspuren aus rund einem halben Jahrtausend finden. Lange konnte Ehrenberg ein friedliches Dasein führen.
Das änderte sich mit dem Ausbruch der Religionskriege. Ehrenberg war mehrmals Mittelpunkt kriegerischen Ringens.1546 nahmen die protestantischen Schmalkalden die Festung ein. 1552 wurde sie vom Kurfürsten Moritz von Sachsen überrumpelt.
1632 machten die Schweden vor ihren Mauern Halt. 1703 fiel sie beim Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg den Bayern in die Hände. Von 1716 auf 1717 wurde Ehrenberg dem russischen Zarewitsch Alexej, der vor seinem Vater Zar Peter dem Großen geflohen war, als Aufenthaltsort zugewiesen. Sogar in den napoleonischen Kriegen spielte diese eine Rolle.
Ab 1971 nahm sich Fridolin Schennach aus Reutte der verfallenen Ruine an und startete mit zahlreichen Idealisten eine Rettungsaktion.
