Das Rathaus von Oslo ist durch die jährliche Verleihung des Friedensnobelpreises weltweit bekannt.
Im zentralen Bau des Rathauses befinden sich das Stadtparlament und Festräume, in den zwei Türmen sind Büroräume untergebracht. Das Gebäude ist eine architektonische Dominanz in der norwegischen Hauptstadt und hat eine große historische und symbolische Bedeutung für die norwegische Unabhängigkeit. Das Rathaus sollte bereits ab 1905 zur Feier der neu gewonnenen Unabhängigkeit gebaut werden. Eine Spendensammlung und ein Architekturwettbewerb machten den Anfang. Durch Finanzierungsprobleme und den Ersten Weltkrieg wurde das Projekt jedoch behindert. Der achte Entwurf für das Gebäude kam im Jahr 1930 zur Ausführung. Die Grundsteinlegung erfolgte 1931, durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg verzögerte sich der Bau jedoch abermals. Die offizielle Einweihung fand 1950 statt.
