From the picnic area at Kammertwingert, a view opens up over the sea of vines of the Southern Wine Route and the small winemaker village of Ranschbach. The Keschde Experience Trail leads to the rest area.
The Kammertwingert was established here as a model vineyard by winemakers from Ranschbach and is still maintained. Since wire was very expensive and almost unobtainable in the past, wooden frameworks were built for the vines. Without supports, the grapes would grow on the ground and not ripen properly. The winemakers constructed square frame structures from chestnut wood, and the resulting chambers gave the vine training method its name. Even today, winemakers still say they are going to "make chambers" when they carry out manual work in the vineyard.
Picnic in Nature
Whether on a hike or a bike tour: A picnic in the open air is a special experience – especially with regional specialties from the Palatinate! To keep nature as untouched as possible, please use only designated rest areas. In forests and vineyards, there are often no trash bins to avoid attracting wild animals and to keep the landscape clean.
Therefore, the rule is: Everything you bring with you, you should also take back with you. Food scraps and packaging can be dangerous for animals and often take decades to decompose. Dispose of your waste responsibly and thus protect the unique nature of the Palatinate!
