Der Oechsle Pavillon erinnert an Christian Ferdinand Oechsle, der einst in Pforzheim die Mostwaage zur Bestimmung des Zuckergehalts im Wein erfunden hat.

Christian Ferdinand Oechsle oder Öchsle wurde am 26. Dezember 1774 in Buhlbach bei Baiersbronn geboren.

Er war der Erfinder, der nach ihm benannten Oechsle-Waage oder Mostwaage. Das ist ein Dichtemessgerät zur Bestimmung des Zuckergehalts im Traubensaft.

Die Einheit °Oechsle (Grad Oechsle) wurde später nach ihm benannt. Normalerweise hat ein Wein zwischen 70 und 85 °Oechsle. Je höher der Zuckergehalt (= Grad Oechsle), desto optimaler ist das für den:die Winzer:in, da sich dadurch mehr Zucker in Alkohol umwandeln kann.

17. März 1852 verstarb Oechsle in Pforzheim.

Vom Oechsle Pavillon hat man eine fantastische Sicht über das Würmtal und den nördlichen Schwarzwald.
