Boundary rock between the Hauenstein and Schwanheim districts. Former border between the possessions of the Electoral Palatinate and the Prince-Bishop of Speyer.
The Hühnerstein is a mountain 455.7 m above sea level in the southern Palatinate Forest. It is located in Hauenstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, which belongs to the Wasgau region formed by the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the northern part of the Vosges Mountains. The mountain is completely forested. At the summit, there is a rock tower about 12 metres high with a viewing platform that can be reached via a secured ladder and provides a magnificent 360° view.
