Er dient als Aussichtspunkt in das Elztal mit einfachem Aufstieg und kleiner Plattform mit Eisengeländer. Aufgrund seines markanten Aussehens wird er auch gerne als U-Boot bezeichnet.
Der Felsen erhielt seinen Namen vom ehemaligen Obervogt von Triberg, Theodor Huber und wurde 1902 so zum Denkmal für ihn. Eine kleine Hinweistafel am Felsen weist seitdem auf den Namensgeber hin.
Theodor Huber förderte den Bau von Bergstraßen, wie beispielsweise von Triberg nach Hausach, die genau an dieser Stelle vorbei führte.
