Der Wasserfall am Hechtsee ist der einzige Abfluss des in Tirol gelegenen Sees. Auffallend ist die schwefelige Duftnote des Wassers.
Niederschlag, Witterung und seine Zuflüsse sorgen im Hechtsee nur in den oberen Schichten für genügend Sauerstoffzufuhr und Wasseraustausch. Weil sich in tieferen Wasserschichten des Sees sauerstoffloses, schwefelwasserstoffhaltiges Wasser sammelt, wird im Hechtsee Wasser aus 20 Metern Tiefe hochgeleitet, damit der See nicht "kippt". Dieses fließt zusammen mit dem überschüssigen Oberflächenwasser als Wasserfall in den Kieferbach.
