An der Straßenbrücke über den Faltenbach bei 1.680 m wird eine Schuppe von Allgäu-Formation gequert. Die Allgäu-Formation kann wieder an den dunklen Mergelsteinen erkannt werden. Der Faltenbach hat in die weichen, leicht ausräumbaren Gesteine sein Bachbett gelegt.
Von einer Schuppe spricht der Geologe, wenn die Grenzen der Gesteinseinheit zum Nachbargestein nicht durch die normale Ablagerungsabfolge, sondern durch Versatz an Bewegungsflächen („tektonisch") entstanden sind. Die Allgäu-Formation ist hier zwischen Hauptdolomit eingeschaltet. Nachdem etliche Formationen der normalen Schichtabfolge fehlen, muss die Schichtgrenze von tektonischer Art sein. Die schmale Schuppe quert nicht nur den Talgrund, sondern zieht auch gegenüber als grasiger Streifen zwischen Wänden von Hauptdolomit zum Schattenberg hoch.
